Student Government Association to sponsor ‘Veterans Appreciation Day’

The Student Government Association of Surry Community College will sponsor a ‘Veterans Appreciation Day’ on Thursday, November 8th on the main campus in Dobson. V

eterans and their spouses are invited to enjoy lunch in the Knights Grill at 11:00 a.m. in the Reeves Building. There will be a special ceremony, open to the public, in the Auditorium (A121) at noon. Surry has been designated as a Military Friendly School for 2013.

Surry Community College participates in The Veterans Retraining Assistance Program (VRAP) which offers up to 12 months of retraining assistance to Veterans who meet all the following criteria: unemployed, 35 years of age but no more than 60, honorable discharge, not eligible for any other VA education benefit programs (e.g., the Post-9/11 GI Bill, Montgomery GI Bill, Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment), does not receive VA compensation due to Individual Unemployability (IU) and not enrolled in a federal or state job training program. Applications for VRAP are currently being accepted at www.va.gov.
