Adam McComb will take over as Elkin's new recreation and parks director on November 16. McComb previously worked as Program Supervisor for Elkin Recreation and Parks Department from January 2002 until July 2007 before taking the director's position with Surry County Recreation and Parks department. He has been with Surry County for the past two years.

"I enjoyed my time working in Elkin with the staff and the town, and when the position with Surry County became available, I saw it as an opportunity," McComb said. "When I learned the director's position was opening in Elkin, I thought this would be a good opportunity and luckily everything worked out. I can't wait to get started."

McComb moved to State Road seven years ago after working in Newbern, NC. His parents are residents of Jonesville.

He and wife Ruthann, who teaches at Elkin High School, have two sons, Thomas, five and Luke, three.

"I'm looking forward to working with the staff in Elkin and with the town," he said. "Brent (Cornelison), and I came to Elkin around the same time and he was really into promoting community fitness. I plan to continue that legacy. I don't want that to leave. It's a great asset to Elkin for the residents to be able to come to the recreation department to work out, play basketball and utilize the walking track.

I believe in providing children and youth with sports opportunities. It not only teaches them the skills to play sports, but teaches skills about life. It's important for them to learn these skills whether losing or winning a big game. I want to promote that in a positive way."

"I am very pleased that Adam will be returning to Elkin as the Director of Recreation and Parks," John Holcomb, Elkin's town manager said. "Elkin's recreation programs and parks have historically been an important part of the town and Adam''s capabilities and experience will prove useful as we continue to improve our programs and services."

McComb is replacing Cornelison who left Elkin to take a position with Statesville's Parks and Recreation Department.
