Happy parents Chris and Erika Adams of State Road present their baby Tucker Lee Adams, the official first baby born in 2013 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital.
A baby boy decided that he was going to be Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital’s first baby for 2013.
Tucker Lee Adams arrived at 6:37 a.m. on Tuesday and weighed 8 pounds, 14 ounces. He was 20.5 inches long.
Tucker’s parents, Chris and Erika, knew their son had a due date of New Year’s Day, but neither imagined or planned that he would be the hospital’s first. Less than 5 percent of babies arrive on a designated due date, according to Parents Magazine.
“During my pregnancy, Tucker was very active at night,” said a gleaming Erika. “It was very Tucker-like to keep me up all night long for a delivery. However, having a child on New Year’s not only shows how active my son is, but shows how blessed we are as new parents, and also puts a true perspective on how great God is to us.”
Chris, who was in the delivery room to witness the birth, said his new bundle of joy was one of the greatest experiences he’s ever witnessed.
“I was amazed…with so many people working hard to help deliver our baby,” said Chris. “We’re so thankful.”
Tucker is the couple’s first child.
Both parents suggested that Tucker is an instant athlete, a Pittsburgh Steelers fan, and most certainly a fan of the Carolina Tar Heels. Though Tucker had no comment to our questions, he was sporting a perfectly-fitted Tar Heels outfit.
Both are prepared for parenting. Erika is a nurse, while Chris is in auto body restoration.
“I gave my son his first bath,” boasted a jubilee Chris. “It’s different though. Bathing my boy is not like repairing a collision. You have to be careful, gentle.”
Dozens of family and friends visited the happy trio in the hospital to celebrate like Niki and Chad Wagner, who both have a five-month-old baby.
“We’ve been friends since we were in school,” said Niki. “We’re so excited for them and their miracle.”
The Adams are members of the Charity Hill Baptist Church in Thurmond. They look forward to showing off Tucker to the congregation.
Tucker is also the first grandchild to the family.
