ATHENS, Ga. - Former Starmount baseball standout Dillon Dobson continues his strong play up the mountain at Appalachian State.

Dobson belted his fourth home run of his impressive freshman campaign Wednesday to help the Mountaineers knock off Southeastern Conference power Georgia 8-5 in Athens.

The Boonville native turned on a 2-0 pitch and hit a towering two-run shot over the scoreboard in right field at Foley Field. The longball was Dobson’s team-leading fourth of the season.

His shot against Georgia came three days after a record-breaking afternoon against Southern Conference rival Furman. Dobson cranked a pair of homers Sunday, becoming the first Appalachian freshman to go deep twice in a game since 2006.

Dobson has started 13 of 14 games for ASU on the year, hitting .245 while splitting time as a designated hitter and at first base. The freshman has scored 12 runs, recorded 11 RBIs and swiped six bases on six tries - all marks rank in the top three of the Mountaineer offense.

Dobson and Appalachian (9-5, 3-3 in the Southern Conference) return home Saturday with a double-header against Cornell.
