The ladies at Welcome Home Missionary Baptist Church are having a Vendor Sale at the corner of N.C. 268 bypass and North Bridge Street in Elkin on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This event will showcase local craft vendors and independent sales companies such as Thirty One, Mary Kay, Scentsy and Jamboree Nails.

Wayne Overcash will be preaching at Garden Creek Baptist Church Sunday at 9 a.m. Everyone is invited to worship in this historic church within the boundaries of Stone Mountain State Park. Campers are encouraged to come as they are.

This year’s Summer Reading Program at Traphill Branch Library theme is “Every Hero Has A Story.” On July 21, there will be a Story Time program at 11 a.m.

New books ready to check out at Traphill Branch Library include “The Rebels of the Kasbah” by Joe O’Neill, “Hollow City- The Second Novel of Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children” by Ransom Riggs, “Maximum Ride Forever” by James Patterson, and “One for the Murphys” by Lynda Mullaly Hunt.

New audio books on CD include “Fourteenth Goldfish” by Jennifer L. Holm, “The One and Only Ivan” by Katherine Applegate, “Dead End in Norvelt” by Jack Gantos, and “Death Cloud” by Andrew Lane.

Get well wishes go to Kemp Johnson who was in the hospital last week.

I enjoyed spending a couple of days last week in Hendersonville with my Ashley kids and grandkids from Jacksonville, Florida, and Hot Springs, Arkansas. I got to meet my great grandson, Beau Ashley, who is 6 months old, for the first time.

Happy birthday wishes go to John Shaver on July 13; Doris Lee and Lisa Goad on July 15; Louise Humphrey and Scott Wyatt on July 16; Travis Butcher and Mary Ann Joines on July 18; and Matthew Daye on July 19.

Traphill had a low temperature of 64.4 degrees on July 7 and a high temperature of 94.8 degrees on July 9. There was .1 inch of rain in Traphill during the week of July 6-12.
