It was double points nights with all seven racing divisions competing Saturday night at Friendship Motor Speedway.
Saturday night’s winners included Hamptonville’s Chris Cheek in the SeCA Crate Late Model division and Ronda’s Bryan Nance in the Limited Sportsman division.
North Wilkesboro’s Chad Call claimed his eighth feature of the season in the Super Stock 4 division. Harmony’s Richard Clew, prending a tire protest, picked up the Open Wheel Modified feature win. Jr. Blackburn returned to victory lane in the Renegades; Blake Walker took the Xtreme Stock 4 feature; and Kasey Shane won the UCars feature.
For Cheek, it was a big opportunity to put more distance between himself and second-place Chase McCormick in the points standings. McCormick came into the night 36 points behind Cheek.
“It’s always a good night to want to do good,” Cheek said. “It couldn’t have come at a better time.”
Cheek said he was glad he could take home a win on Fan Appreciation Night as well.
Starting fourth, Cheek said he kept in mind the number of crashes that have occurred when the green flag comes out recently. “I said, ‘Let’s just keep the fenders on the car and the wheels on the track’,” he said. “You think about that a lot,” he said referring to the crashes, “but you got to be aggressive and know when to be aggressive.
“You got to be conservative and aggressive at the same time.”
Racing continues Saturday night at Friendship.
