Weather was just about perfect for a football practice on the first of August: cool and rainy.
“We’ve been blessed with great weather,” Elkin Head Coach Scott Wood said. “First day of practice. Seventy degrees.
“Heat shouldn’t be a factor.”
Approximately 40 junior varsity and varsity players - those who had their paperwork and physicals in order and completed - turned out for an intense workout that began at about 9:30 a.m. Friday.
The Buckin’ Elks will practice again Monday morning. They’ll get in their pads for the first time Tuesday.
Elkin will host scrimmages with East Surry Aug. 12 and with North Iredell Aug. 15.
The Buckin’ Elks will open the 2014 season Aug. 22 at Forbush.
