EAST BEND — The Yadkin County 7-and-under All-Stars didn’t get off to the start they were looking for as hosts of the Western North Carolina State Tournament at Fall Creek Elementary School Elementary.

Yadkin County lost to South Charlotte, 6-1, Saturday and fell to the loser’s bracket of the 12-team tournament that is slated to finish Tuesday.

Cody Hernandez had two hits and had another hard-hit ball to center in his three at-bats for Yadkin County. Hernandez also scored the only run in the bottom of the last inning after Dylan McClamrock drove a pitch to the outfield.

Garret Pack also had two hits for Yadkin County. Tyler Hutchens, Gavin Maines, and Hayden Royal also had hits for Yadkin County.

South Charlotte scored once in the first and five times in the fifth.

After the game, Yadkin County manager Keith Pack told his team to “forget about it. It don’t matter anymore. Keep your heads up.”

The loss was the first postseason loss for the team. They had won their first seven.

Pack added, “I’m proud of the boys. They’ve done well.”

The team is the first from Yadkin County to advance this far in the machine-pitch Cal Ripken competition, Pack said.
