MOCKSVILLE — Sawyer Davis went 3-for-4 and drove in four runs as Mocksville-Davie Post 54-174 defeated Wilkes County Post 31, 21-0, in a Senior American Legion baseball game Monday night at Mando Park.

The game was the first of a best-of-five series which continued Tuesday night.

Davis’s RBI-double in the first put Mocksville-Davie up 1-0. After flying out in the third, he stroked a two-run double in the fourth to make it 7-0. He tacked on an RBI-single in the sixth.

Davis also had an at-bat in the fifth inning where he drew a walk after fouling off three two-strike pitches.

“He’s got some quick hands,” Mocksville-Davie Coach Charles Kurfees said. “He’s hit the ball really well for us all year.”

Davis, who holds down second base, turned a beautiful double play Monday night - short-arming in one motion on the turn.

“He’s played good defense at second,” Kurfees said. “He’s a pleasure to coach.”

Kurfees said he would like to see more players from Yadkin County playing Mocksville in the future. “We’ve been very successful with a lot of guys from Starmount and Forbush in the past,” he said. “We need to get them to come down here and see what American Legion is all about.

“I think they’re missing out.”
