MOUNT AIRY — “It’s a broken record,” Starmount Coach Josh Pardue said after his Rams lost to Walkertown, 10-5, Saturday in the opening game of the ALS Benefit in Memory of Craig Hunter event at Mount Airy High School Saturday.

“We haven’t been playing seven innings,” Pardue continued. “Even in our wins, we’re not playing seven innings.”

Every spot in the lineup produced a hit as the Wolfpack pounded out 13 hits. Six of those hits went for extra bases. Even the nine hole provided two walks and a triple.

Luke Shore, Garrett Stokes, and Thomas Johnson had two hits each as the Rams registered nine hits.

Walkertown blew the game open with four runs in the fourth to take a 7-1 lead. The inning was highlighted by Kerry Rice’s two-run double.

But Starmount struck back with four in the bottom half of the fourth. Caleb West led off with a walk; Johnson followed with an RBI double; Sawyer Davis followed with a two-out, RBI single; and Ben Combs walked before Stokes came through with a two-run double to make it 7-5.

Walkertown finally managed some breathing room with a three-run seventh.

“We finally got some consistent pitching,” Pardue said. “They were pitching contact. We can at least fight a little bit when they do that.”

Starmount enters the last third of the season at 6-11 and the last half of the conference schedule at 4-4.

“We got to put seven innings together,” Pardue said. “It has to be a conscious effort.”

Walkertown improved to 12-2.
