RONDA — Mary Hollis posted a hat trick as Wilkes Central downed East Wilkes, 6-0, Thursday evening.

Hollis scored once in the first half - in the ninth minute - and twice more in the second half.

The Eagles outshot the Cardinals 27-3. Nineteen of their shots were on net. East Wilkes had two shots on net. Corners were 6-2 in favor of Wilkes Central.

The Cardinals didn’t get their first shot on net until seven minutes in the second half as they were able to apply sustained pressure at times.

“We played hard,” East Wilkes Coach Matt Campbell said. “We showed a lot of improvement.

“They (the Eagles) were a better team for 80 minutes.

“I told them at half time they had to link some passes together and any time they got it outside the 18 to take a shot and they did that.”
