STATE ROAD — Starmount took both halves of the two nine-hole matches at Cedarbrook Country Club Tuesday.

On a sunny and windy day, the Rams shot a 176 to edge Alleghany (178) and Elkin (179) in the first match; and a 168 to edge Alleghany (169) and Elkin (170) in the second.

Gunner Cass, with a 41, paced Starmount on the first nine, while Nick Gunnell and Brady Hunter each notched 41s to pace the Rams on the second nine.

Elkin was led by Harrison Hall, Josiah Blevins, and Logan Johnson - all with 44 - on the first nine; and by Hall and Blevins - both with 40 - on the second nine.

East Wilkes’ Zach Nixon fired a 40 to take individual honors for the first nine, while Chandler Metz of Wilkes Central took individual honors on the second nine with a 36.

East Wilkes took fifth in both matches, totalling 186 and a 187, respectively. The Cardinals were led by Dustin Holloway’s 40 in the second round.

Tuesday’s scores were generally high, although they improved as the wind died down during the second round and the players adjusted to the slow greens.
