DOBSON — Kaden Leonard held Starmount to one hit over the last three innings as Surry Central defeated Starmount, 7-6, in eight innings Saturday afternoon.

Cole Fowler went 2-for-5 with an RBI to pace the Golden Eagles at the plate.

Surry Central, with their fourth straight win, is now 7-4 overall and 3-0 in the conference. Starmount fell to 5-9 and 3-3.

The Rams were at East Wilkes last night. They play at North Wilkes Friday.

Women’s Soccer


East Wilkes, Mount Airy postponed: Monday’s scheduled match between Mount Airy and East Wilkes was not played due to inclement weather.

The game is rescheduled for May 5 at East Wilkes.

The Cardinals, 2-3-1, finished a stretch of five games in quick succession April 1.

March 26, the Cardinals defeated North Wilkes, 6-0, at home. Sophomore forward Melia Higgins and senior defender Amanda Ford each scored two goals. Midfielders Brooke Schubart and Molly Callaway each added a goal.

March 27, Avery Country defeated the Cardinals by the same score: 6-0.

March 28, host West Wilkes defeated East Wilkes, 4-0. The Blackhawks scored off two corner kicks and a penalty kick.

March 31, East Wilkes traveled to North Surry and defeated the Greyhounds, 5-1. Senior midfielder Katie Huffman and Higgins each scored two goals. Ford scored the other goal for the Cardinals.

April 1, East Wilkes hosted Ashe County. The Huskies won 2-0.

The Cardinals hosted Starmount Tuesday and will next play Wilkes Central at home Friday.
