EAST BEND — Forbush made short work of Starmount, claiming a 9-0 win Thursday.
The game was stopped in the fourth minute of the second half when the Falcons scored their ninth goal.
The Rams started three freshmen on the back line and despite the heroics of keeper Amanda O’Donnell, the polished Falcons had simply too much firepower.
“Every year she just keeps getting better,” Starmount Coach Jered Markman said of his keeper. “She keeps her head up.”
Proceeds from the game benefited juvenile diabetes. Both teams wore commemorative tops that read “Give Juvenile Diabetes The Boot.” More than $200 was raised, Markman said.
Shots were 22-2 in favor of Forbush. The Falcons also held a 9-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Claire Maske had both shots on goal for Starmount.
The Rams, now 0-4, are at Ashe County Tuesday.
Starmount 17, North Wilkes 15: In Boonville, Morgan Brown went 3-for-5 and knocked in five runs as the Rams won their second game of the season.
The Rams rallied from a 9-0 first-inning deficit and an 11-4 second-inning deficit.
Alli Jones also went 3-for-5 and added four RBI and four runs scored for Starmount. Other hitting stars for the Rams were Amber Fernando (2-for-3, three runs) and Ashley Johnson (3-for-4, two runs, two RBI). Brown also scored two runs.
Kenzie Harris pitched the second through seventh innings for the Rams.
Starmount Middle School 21, Ashe County 16: After a winless 2013, the Rams won their 2014 season opener.
Seventh-grader Kayla Vanhoy pitched. “She did a really good job,” SMS Coach Russ Pardue said. “She battled through.
“The whole team hit the ball well and played hard.”
West Wilkes 4, Starmount 2: In Millers Creek, Taylor Lowe hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh to lift the Blackhawks.
The Rams tied it in their half of the seventh when Ashley Johnson singled and Angle Couch homered.
Olivia Greene went the distance for the Rams, allowing eight hits and four earned runs.
Weather permitting, the Rams (2-4) are Ashe County Tuesday.
Alleghany 13, East Wilkes 4: In Ronda, Austin Easter stopped the Cardinals on two hits through 5.2 innings as the Trojans won a Mountain Valley Athletic Conference game.
Matt McMillan homered and tripled as he drove in seven runs for Alleghany. Easter finished with 13 strikeouts.
Down 13-0 in their half of the seventh, the Cardinals rallied as Zach West singled and eventually scored on Levi Ray’s fielder’s choice; Jacob Chipman scored on Zach Crabb’s RBI single; Chandler Bare walked to score Ray; and H.N. Pattern walked to score Crabb.
Elkin 9, Alleghany 0: In Sparta, the Buckin’ Elks ran their record to 5-0 with a straight-set blanking of the Trojans.
Elkin hosts Starmount Tuesday at 4.

Temperatures were in the low 60s and breezy.
Elkin’s Josiah Blevins and Starmount’s Nick Gunnell tied for top individual honors with 38s.
East Wilkes’ Zach Nixon shot s 39. Starmount’s Mason Hodges contributed a 41.
