First-year Starmount Coach Josh Pardue will roll out a young team in 2014.
Only five players return from the 2013 team that went 8-16. The record is a little misleading as the Rams were 8-8 in conference play.
“Youth will help us out,” Pardue said. “But we have some [juniors] who played a lot on varsity as sophomores last year.”
The Rams feature only one four-year senior and only three seniors overall.
“We’re looking for them to take some leadership roles,” Pardue said. “I think if they do that they’ll be successful.”
Pardue said he hasn’t had much time to assess his young team. Before Wednesday’s 6-3 loss at Forbush, “I think we’ve been on the field maybe three times,” he said.
Pardue said he was “pleasantly surprised by his team’s performance against the Falcons. “But we have plenty to work on,” he said. “We’re just getting ready for the conference season.”
Starmount bounced back from its opening-day loss to defeat Surry Central, 6-3, Thursday.
