EAST BEND — If the Falcons overpower their opponents this season, it will be from the mound; not the plate.

“Our pitching should be pretty good,” second-year Forbush Coach Denny Key said. “I have several guys capable of throwing.

“We got a couple of pretty good hitters. We don’t have as much power. Historically, we pound the ball. We’ve been very capable of hitting the fastball.”

Key expects that to change this season. “We’re going to have to learn to manufacture runs,” he said. “I got a lot of kids who are good bat swingers, but they’re not hitters. We’ll work on that all year.

“We’re capable of winning several games if we can execute.”

The Falcons are off to a 2-0 start. They’ll host Wilkes Central today before traveling to take on Starmount Tuesday.
