RONDA — The Lady Elks are now 8-8 for the season, and 3-4 in conference play following a close loss to rival East Wilkes Friday night, 60-53.
Elkin’s girls came out hard in the first quarter, ending the time with a 12-5 score over the Cardinals.
But East Wilkes struck back, outscoring the Elks 18-12 in the second quarter, and going into the half with a 24-23 score with the Elks leading by one.
Elkin’s girls lost their lead in the third quarter, which ended with the Lady Cards up by one, 39-38.
The Lady Elks fought for the win, but couldn’t hold on as East Wilkes outscored them 21-15 in the fourth for the 60-53 victory.
East Wilkes ended the game with an 8-7 record, 4-4 in conference, and the girls next face North Wilkes at home Tuesday.
Elkin’s next match-up is against Wilkes Central in Wilkesboro Tuesday.
