BOONVILLE — Starmount’s boys defeated Ashe County Wednesday at home and then followed up with a victory over North Wilkes Friday night in Hays.


Luke Shore was recognized by Starmount as the player of the game on maxpreps.com in the Ashe County game, posting 20 points, two of which were three-pointers, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals.


Starmount game on strong in the game against the Huskies from the first quarter, with the Rams putting up 17 points to Ashe’s 12. Going into half time, the score was 32-18 Starmount.


In the third quarter, the Rams outscored Ashe County 20-11. In the fourth quarter, the Huskies took the top scoring 21-19, although it wasn’t enough to catch the Rams, who won the game 71-50.


Also leading the Rams were Gunner Cass with 15 points, Kyler Gregory with 14 points, Trey Bryant with 8, Dalton Vestal 6, James Ashley 4, Blake Cheek 2, and Jonah Shore 2.


In Friday night’s match-up with the Vikings of North Wilkes, Starmount lead the game by just one point at the end of the first quarter, 14-13. At half time, it was only a three-point game, with the Rams ahead 33-30.


The game remained a close one in the third quarter with the Vikings and Rams both scoring 15, but the Rams pulled ahead outscoring North Wilkes 13-8 in the fourth for a final 61-53 win.


Individual scoring wasn’t available at press time for the Starmount-North Wilkes game.


The two wins leaves the Rams with a 7-6, 4-2 record, while North Wilkes has a 5-9, 2-4 record.


Starmount next will face Alleghany at home Tuesday.
