In a valiant effort by two conference teams on Friday, the Lady Falcons lost to the Lady Wildcats 38-36.


West Stokes fought their way back after being behind at half-time to take the lead 31-23 to close the third. Then, a series of forced defensive turnovers and aggressive offense by Forbush brought the score within one point in the last minute of the game.


In an exciting finish, the game leading-scorer, Brittany Moose led a defense attack recording several steals. The Lady Falcons used double-team coverage, cut off the Wildcats basket attack and held them to seven points.


The Falcons led 20-16 at half-time with Paris Trivette dribbling inside aggressively scoring on several lay-ups. Trivette led the Falcons with eight points going into halftime, and Brittany Moose had recorded six.


Cassie Palmer led the Wildcats going into half-time recording two- three-point baskets, and Taylor McKinney held a perfect four for four from the free-throw line.


The Falcons put the first two on the board in the second half, but the Wildcats fired back heavily attacking the basket on offense. Wildcat McKinney drove in for a lay-up and Abigail Worley gave the Wildcats the second-half lead after sinking a free throw to make the score Wildcats 23-22. A pivotal moment in a change of momentum came after Wildcat Makala Bozman sank two- three-point baskets in a row. Bozman’s baskets distanced the Wildcats from the Falcons to give them a 31-23 lead ending the third


Falcon Moose led both an offensive and defensive charge in the fourth by scoring eight points and shooting 4/6 from the line. She was followed by teammate Calyn Davis who attacked the basket on several drives coming away with points and recording a perfect 3/3 from the line. The Falcon team aggressively kept the Wildcats from attacking the boards on offense by using double coverage and fought aggressively to get rebounds.


The Falcons defensive show of force paid off after another steal by Moose resulted in a Davis lay-up that drew a Wildcat foul. Davis completed a perfect three-point play under the pressure to make the score 37-36 moving the Falcons within one.


With just seconds left in regulation, Wildcat Worley hit from the free-throw line to give the final 38-36 finish to the Wildcats.


Lady Wildcats Head Coach Chad Ayers said, “I had rather have an ugly win, than a pretty loss.”


Lady Falcons Head Coach Bradley Shore said, “I am as proud as I can be of the last few minutes but we must have 32.”
