BOONVILLE - Looking for another Mountain Valley Conference volleyball title, the Lady Rams blanked Surry Central Thursday in their final non-conference tune-up.

Starmount swept the Golden Eagles in straight sets, 25-13, 25-14, 25-13, to head into the league schedule on a high note.

The dynamic duo of Haley Hartman and Hunter Welborn continued to dominate. Welborn powered the Rams with 15 kills, six digs, two blocks and four serving aces, while Hartman tallied 13 kills, nine digs and two aces.

Erin Barr added 33 assists and six dig, while Alli St. John recorded seven digs and went 10-for-11 on serves. Alli Jones was a perfect 7-for-7 on serves with Sarah Wagoner (5-for-5) and Ashley Johnson (7-for-8) also turning in strong performances from the service line.

The win over Surry Central was a big bounce-back victory from last week’s 3-1 non-conference loss to 3A Hickory.

Hartman recorded a double-double in the loss with 10 kills and 15 digs, while Welborn added 15 kills, six digs and five blocks. Barr just missed a triple-double with 25 assists, nine kills and nine digs, while St. John went 17-for-17 on serves with 11 digs and four blocks.

The Rams open conference action Tuesday night against West Wilkes before taking on North Wilkes Wednesday in Boonville.
