Hugh Chatham Express Care opened on August 18 and is located on 1428 North Bridge St. in Elkin, with a ribbon cutting scheduled there on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. A second location called Hugh Chatham Urgent Care is scheduled to open the second week in November at 526 Winston Road in Jonesville.

Director of Occupational Health Dr. Joseph Zastrow said the Elkin express care provides medical care access on a walk-in basis and keeps people from the high cost of emergency care. He said health care is available for most everything short of emergency care.

Physician assistants from Hugh Chatham Family Medicine and other Chatham medical practices will serve patients on a rotating basis, said Zastrow. He said in addition to treatment, they have a primary goal of customer service.

Tamara Moser is the director of the Occupational Program at Hugh Chatham Express Care and Patty Puckett is the medical 0ffice assistant.

Treatable items at the recently opened express care are listed as being minor wounds, bruises and other injuries, bronchitis, influenza, headaches and fever; minor rashes, skin infections, insect bites, inner ear and urinary tract infections; and the center can provide sports physicals.

Zastrow said the express care is also working with a number of local companies in caring for occupational health concerns. Zastrom is a member of American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine. He said when the urgent care opens in Jonesville it will have extra facilities to also accommodate businesses.

Vice President of Operations Mary Blackburn said “Our goal is right care, at the right place, at the right cost and right time.”

The Jonesville location will offer x-rays, hearing booths, drug and alcohol testing, and orthopaedic medicine.

Blackburn said both medical facilities encourage continuity of care and will provide primary care physicians medical information as needed.

“We’re invested in the community and we care,” said Blackburn.

The Elkin practice is open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday - Friday; 10 a.m. - 7 p.m on Saturday; and 1 - 7 p.m. on Sunday.
