CHARLOTTE — Belk has announced it will host its bi-annual Kidfest in-store event August 9, from noon until 3 p.m. in Mount Airy.
“It (Kidfest) just keeps getting bigger,” said Belk Vice President and Regional Manager Michael Linsbeck.” I’ve been involved with Kidfest in Mount Airy for the past five years and I think the additional things added each year have helped it grow in popularity.”
The event will include runway fashion shows featuring local children as models wearing Belk’s latest fashion offerings and styles for kids. According to Linsbeck, this year’s Kidfest is encouraging kids to get healthy and active, and will feature sports games and an obstacle course. Other activities and entertainment may include refreshments, music, games, face painting, balloons and prizes.
Linsbeck said 75 children participated in the fashion show in Mount Airy last year. He explained the event was a natural extension of the retailer’s back to school offerings and dovetailed with the store’s ongoing community service tradition as a community retailer supporting a variety of local charities.
“Parents, grandparents and everybody comes out. It’s a bunch of fun for all of us involved with everyone taking pictures,” Linsbeck said. “I think everyone wants their kid to be famous. I especially enjoy seeing the little guys, the 4- to 5-year-olds, they are so cute on the runway. It’s just a great event with refreshments and games for the kids.”
Parents and legal guardians interested in having their children ages 4 to 12 participate as models in the KidFest fashion show in their community should call 336-789-2111 to register and obtain more information.
In line with the healthy lifestyle theme, Under Armour will also be hosting a “design your own” t-shirt contest for kids in participating stores. Participants 7 years old and up can use the markers, colored pencils and crayons provided at the event to enter the contest. Customers who enter will be responsible for submitting their own entries.
