RALEIGH — Senate Leader Phil Berger (R-Rockingham) announced Wednesday he has appointed Sen. Shirley Randleman (R-Wilkes) as co-chair of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Justice and Public Safety.
Randleman will lead the subcommittee, which addresses funding for justice and public safety programs, alongside Sen. Thom Goolsby (R-New Hanover) and Sen. Buck Newton (R-Wilson) when the General Assembly convenes for its short session in May.
“Sen. Randleman is a capable, experienced legislator whose leadership will be instrumental in shaping policy to strengthen our judicial system and make North Carolina a safer place to live and work,” said Berger. “I applaud her willingness to serve the people of North Carolina in this new capacity.”
“I want to thank Sen. Berger for the opportunity to take a leadership role on this committee,” said Randleman. “I believe my experience working in the Judicial System and as a House Appropriations Subcommittee Chair will enable me to be effective in this new role as we work to promote safety throughout North Carolina.”
