Laurel Gray Vineyards in Hamptonville is making an addition to its lineup of award-winning wine selections.
The winery will soon be introducing a new line of fruit wines for customers to select from. The wines will be made from a variety of flavors including blueberry and pear.
The new additions stem from owners Benny and Kim Myers. Kim took the idea of fruit crates, like those used to purchase fruit off the local mountains in bygone days, and create a line of fun, unique wines from that.
The line up, wisely named “Fruit Crates wines,” will include the blueberry “Carolina Blue,” the peach “Southern Belle,” the pear “Starstruck,” the raspberry “All That Rass,” and a pomegranate offering.
The wines will be available through the Laurel Gray owned Yadkin Valley Wine Company, located behind Laurel Gray on the same property.
The two wineries are separate entities but both owned by the Myers. They are both federally registered wineries and have produced national and international award-winning wines.
Being federally registered means a winery can only have one tasting room on a particular piece of land. For Laurel Gray that room is located in an authentic 1930’s milking parlor located off Old Highway 421.
However, as the two wineries are independent companies from one another the rules allow a second tasting room to be built on the property.
The new room, located in the Yadkin Valley Wine Company, will serve the new fruit line separate from the grape-based wines in Laurel Gray.
Benny said the long-term plans are for the milking parlor to one day serve as the fruit tasting room and the Laurel Gray move its operation into the new Yadkin Valley room.
Myers expects to begin selling the already bottled wine from the new room by mid-October.
Laurel Gray sauces
Laurel Gray has also expanded its offerings into the food industry.
The winery now manufactures its own gluten/preservative free sauces for use on everything from pork to ice cream, all the while keeping the flavorful wines as the inspiration.
Myers has included a list of foods that pair well with each sauce, but the sky is the limit for what you can try them with:
- Artisan Vinaigrette is great with fish, vegetables, pork, burgers, and with bread or salad.
- Chocolate Cabernet can be used on ice cream, cheesecake or fresh berries.
- Crazy Bout Butts BBQ is a molasses sauce perfect for pork.
- Chardonnay Caramel is best with ice cream, cheesecake, apple pie, crepes, bread pudding, or whatever your imagination can think of.
The sauces are available through the winery’s tasting room or online at laurelgraysauces.com.
Recipes are also available online to pair the sauces with the perfect selection of foods.
