A Thurmond woman was arrested and charged with armed robbery by the Elkin Police Department after she robbed a local coffee shop.
Police say that at approximately 7:20 a.m. on August 30, they received an alarm at the Coffee House Waffle Shop located at 411 C C Camp Road on Hwy 268 Bypass E.
Telecommunications was able to make contact with employees at the eatery who informed police that they had just been robbed.
“Officers were able to identify the suspect as being an employee. With the assistance of the Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office, the Elkin Police Department has arrested Angela Adams, 33, of Thurmond,” said Captain Kim Robison with the Elkin Police Department.
According to a witness at the scene, Adams entered the store and was acting suspiciously. The witness indicated that Adams walked into the rear of the eatery, washed her hands, grabbed a knife and took money out of the register and safe.
A total of $960 worth of cash was taken. The knife was ditched in the bushes outside of the coffee house and recovered by police.
Adams was employed by the Coffee House Waffle Shop for three days.
Adams was transported to the Surry County Magistrate’s Office.
Magistrate John Snow set a $25,000 secured bond with a court date of September 18, 2013 in the Surry County District Courthouse.
