Elkin City Schools welcomed an important new member to its faculty Monday night.
The monthly board of education meeting July 22 brought the naming of Elkin Elementary’s new assistant principal: Lisa Pendry.
Pendry previously worked at Fall Creek Elementary School as a sixth grade math teacher.
Last year she served as curriculum coordinator for Forsyth County Schools.
EES’ new principal Anthony Davis made the unscheduled announcement shortly before the board went into recess July 22. Davis was named principal during the April board meeting after Tom Caton announced his retirement.
Davis thanked the board members for the opportunity to hire Pendry and for the ability to be principal himself.
Pendry was welcomed by each of the board members and shook hands with each following her introduction.
There was some speculation as to whom Davis would hire as his assistant principal following his naming to the head position in April.
While the Board of Education and School Superintendent Dr. Randy Bledsoe chose to promote Davis to the captain’s chair following Caton’s retirement announcement, Bledsoe told the Tribune the choice for assistant was Davis.
Pendry was named to the position in time to prepare for the beginning of the 2013-14 school year, which begins August 26 for students.
Bledsoe also announced a new member of the Elkin City Schools family, but not a faculty member.
Lynn Wall Kennedy was introduced to the audience as the new representative for Elkin City Schools on the Surry Community College Board of Trustees.
Kennedy is a graduate of Surry Community College in addition to her later education. She is the Clinical Nurse Manager at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital and has held the position for ten years.
She has received the HCMH Champion Award and the HCMH Legend Award.
Kennedy will fill the empty seat left by Bonnie Stuart, who retired from the position after serving since 1980.
