An man has been charged with firing a gun at three people at Woodrun Apartments, according to an Elkin Police Department press release.
Randy Sexton, 58, was charged with three counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. Law enforcement officers evacuated several apartments before he was apprehended and taken into custody, according to a release. He was taken before a Surry County Magistrate, where he was denied bond.
Elkin Police Department officers on Friday morning at approximately 12:15 a.m responded to a call regarding a domestic dispute at Woodrun Apartments 200 Lyles St. apartment 10A in Elkin.
It was reported that Sexton had fired a weapon outside of his apartment into the direction of three people. Upon arrival, officers located the victims outside apartment 10A. None of the victims had been injured by the reported gunfire. Police determined that the suspect was inside his apartment.
Elkin Police and Jonesville Police Department officers began evacuating all the apartments near apartment 10A. The Surry County Sheriff’s Office was notified, and the SET Team and other deputies were dispatched to the scene.
Once the SET Team arrived, several attempts requesting the suspect to exit the apartment were made, but the suspect did not respond, according to the release.
The SET Team then entered the apartment and located the suspect and took him into custody without incident, according to the report.
The suspect was then transported to the Surry County Jail.
