HAMPTONVILLE — Five suspects were charged on March 31 with a variety of drug-related offenses, according to information provided by the Yadkin County Sheriff’s Office.


The suspects allegedly were transporting quantities of cocaine, marijuana and prescription medications into Yadkin County from New Jersey.


The Yadkin County Sheriff’s Office executed a vehicle stop at the intersection of Windsor Road and U.S. 421 northbound. During a search of the vehicle, the officers discovered a large quantity of crack cocaine and other drugs.


After the search of the vehicle, the officers executed a search warrant at a residence on Sweet Clover Drive in Hamptonville. The residence allegedly has been used as a place for people to meet, use and sell controlled substances.


Officers seized more than three ounces of crack cocaine, 18 grams of Clonazepam, 32 dosages of Suboxone, 21 grams of marijuana and 16 grams of Hydrocodone.


Kristin Ann Watson, 33, of Taylorsville, was charged with two counts of trafficking in cocaine, two counts of conspiracy to traffic in cocaine, possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, maintaining a drug dwelling and possession of a controlled substance within a jail/prison premise. She was placed under a $25,000 secure bond.


Darren Hugh Bell, 43, of Hamptonville, was charged with two counts of conspiracy to traffic in cocaine and resisting a public officer. Bell was released under a $7,500 secure bond.


Steven Clifford Sullivan, 33, of Elkin, was charged with two counts of conspiracy to traffic in cocaine, two counts of trafficking in opium or heroin, possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, two counts possession with intent to sell and deliver a schedule III controlled substance, felony possession of cocaine and resisting a public officer. Sullivan was placed under a $100,000 secure bond.


Duane Eric Carpenter, 37, of Taylorsville, was charged with two counts of trafficking in cocaine, two counts of conspiracy to traffic in cocaine, possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, maintaining a drug dwelling, possession of a controlled substance within a jail/prison premises, possession with intent to sell and deliver a schedule II controlled substance and possession with intent to sell and deliver a schedule IV controlled substance. He was placed under a $105,000 secure bond.


An outstanding warrant has been issued for Robert Mitchell Johnson, 50, of Hamptonville, on charges of felony maintaining a drug dwelling and two counts of conspiracy to traffic in cocaine.


The investigation included a joint effort of investigators from the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office, North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and North Carolina Highway Patrol.
