Nicholas Sparks’ latest adaptation of “The Longest Ride” is in production in Wilmington, but film crews will eventually make way to a residence outside of Dobson’s town limits.
Hollywood scouts swarmed the Yadkin Valley area last winter in search of a location. They settled on a house that sits along the serene Mitchell River.
“Producers are also soliciting local businesses who will provide services for crews such as lodging and catering,” said a source close to production.
Local production will begin in August. The shots are expected to conclude by mid-August. Other details relating to the movie are tight-lipped due to contract clauses.
Additional filming will take place in Greensboro and Winston-Salem, along with additional bull riding scenes in Jacksonville, Florida, in July.
Cicely McColloch, proprietor of Diana’s Bookstore in downtown Elkin, said she has a stack of “The Longest Ride” books ready to go. “I read it. It’s a great book. I have about a dozen books. I can get more,” she said. “It’s a great thing to have them near us… Doing a movie here is great for the area.”
The 20th Century Fox movie features Hollywood hearththrob star, Scott Eastwood, son of Clint Eastwood, who’s acting as a bull rider. Opposite Eastwood is actress Britt Robertson, who plays a college student who falls for the cowboy.
“The Longest Ride” follows two sets of lovers in two intertwining stories. The first story is told through flashbacks of a 90-year-old veteran’s life and the love he has for his departed wife. The second story follows a student who falls in love with a similarly-wounded bull rider.
The 28-year-old Eastwood shared the news of his lead role on Instagram back in May, posting a pic of himself holding the book along with the caption, “Great book. Thanks Fox for this amazing opportunity!!” Eastwood self-described himself in past interviews as being a “country boy” and loving “country music.”
Eastwood recently released a photo in what he described as taking in some “Carolina sun” while he was taking a nap during production on June 4.
“The Longest Ride,” Nicholas Sparks’ 17th romance novel, was released on Sept. 17, 2013, and was quickly adapted by 20th Century Fox who will release the move in April 2015.
Eastwood follows in the footsteps of Ryan Gosling, Channing Tatum, Liam Hemsworth Josh Duhamel and Zac Efron, who have all played the leads in movies based on Sparks’ bestsellers.
Other notables cast in the movie are Alan Alda, the 78-year-old acting icon, along with Spanish actress Oona Chaplin, the granddaughter of Charlie Chaplin.
