Staff changes at UniHealth Post-Acute Care in Elkin returns a familiar face to its top position.

Veteran RN Linda Reece, 54, has been appointed as administrator for the facility, formerly known as Elkin HealthCare Center at 560 Johnson Ridge Road.

Reece, with a track record of more than 25 years working at the Elkin facility, said she’s happy to return.

“I’m happy to be home. It feels great coming home,” said Reece.

According to Reece, she started working at the nursing home in 1985 as a staff nurse. She eventually was appointed as director of nursing for the facility and handled the nuts and bolts of the nursing home patient care for 17 years.

Reece said that the company further prepared her with administrator training. Reece also served as the company’s administrative VP for several years and was in charge of 11 nursing centers.

Married in 1981 to Lynn Reece of Dobson, Reece said she felt the toll of travel to each nursing center and living out of a suitcase came with a toll.

“I heard it from my husband. My son is growing up, too. My son (Tyler Reece) is only 11-years-old,” said Reece smiling.

“We joke around with everyone. Though my daughter (Jessica Johzak, 30) and son-in-law (John Johzak) are having a baby and I will be a grandmother, nobody expected me to have another baby when I was 43, but Lynn and I did. We blame it on a Carnival Fantasy cruise,” said Reece in laughter.

In addition to Reece, Josh Holbrook joined Uni-Health Post-Acute Care as its admissions director.

“I’m here for people who seek answers to questions regarding the nursing home, discussing when the time is right, and I welcome the inclusion of loved ones,” said Holbrook.

When the facility social worker position opened up, Laura McCann, the former admissions director, transferred into the position.

“This is the right fit and the work I want to do,” said McCann.

Former administrator Jason Lindsey was not available for comment, but Reece indicated that he had been offered another position in the industry.
