Morton receives academic honor at WCU

CULLOWHEE — Michael Christopher Morton of Jonesville was among Western Carolina University students who received academic awards during the 2015-16 school year.

Morton was recognized as a Dean’s Outstanding Scholar during the annual spring awards program for WCU’s College of Arts and Sciences.

Morton, the son of Michael L. and Connie C. Morton of Elk Park, graduated magna cum laude (with high honors) from WCU in May with a bachelor’s degree in emergency and disaster management. He previously earned an associate degree with honors in emergency preparedness at Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute. He is chief of the Elkin Fire Department.
