The 26th annual High School Equivalency Graduation was held on Aug. 30 at Surry Community College. A total of 75 students completed the HSE program in 2014-2015.

DOBSON — A total of 75 students earned their High School Equivalency diplomas, formerly known as General Educational Development diploma (GED), in 2014-2015 and were recently recognized at Surry Community College’s 26th annual HSE Graduation.

A reception for graduates, families and friends was held in the Knights’ Grill following the graduation ceremony on Aug. 30 in the Shelton-Badgett North Carolina Center for Viticulture & Enology, Dobson.

Several of the program’s instructors spoke at the commencement including Randy Hinson, Rita Howell, Rosa Torres, Sheila Swift, Cathy Johnson and Jon Stickel.

Graduates include: Kelly Jean Allen, Rosibeth Ramirez-Carmona, and Kaitlyn Elizabeth Brewer of Boonville; Kirsten Shea Mayes, Timothy Michael Johnson, Maria Raquel Martinez Ibarra, and Jacob Michael Pack of Dobson; Christian Douglas Pack, Jeremy Scott Hunter, Claudia Loa Ruiz, Dustin Marion Delaney, and Anne Lysette Giron of Elkin; Echard Allen Duncan of Hamptonville; Rufino Rodriguez Angulo of Harmony; Jazmin Clavel of Jonesville; Hanna Renee Williams of King; and Sandra Denise Rattler of Lewisville.

Simone and Brandon Scott Nicholas Forte of Lowgap; Daryl William Richard Bennett, Tanner Masen Tucker, Arturo Eugenio Agabo Rojas, Sarah Marie Lomax, Lindsey Chanelle Gravley, Amy Robertson Belton, Samantha Jo Starkey, Sarah Noel Brown, Levi James Clifford, Tiffany Rashell Mosley, Mary Belle Oxendine, Jared Stephen Hiatt, Briana Alexandria Johnson, Meosha Seymour, Tina Marie Hawks, Rhett Allen Schaller Jr., Ashley Noell Noah, and Brittne Alexandrea Glidewell of Mount Airy; Brandy N. Zeigler, Aaron Stone Linville, Jr., and Nathan Alexander Mills of Pilot Mountain; and Christopher William Lane, Dennis Dexter East, and Bradley Cole Jarrell of Pinnacle.

Charity Hope Love and Jared Daniel Duncan of Roaring River; Tara Lyn Dillow of Siloam; Summer Brooke Cockerham of State Road; Julia Christine Shores of Thurmond; Esmeralda Hernandez and Brenda Alicia Hernandez of Winston-Salem; Marleny Patino-Perez, Danielle Lynne Atkinson, Ana Karen Bartolo, Daniel Burcham, Ana karina Gonzalez Colima, David Michael Todd, John Lindsey Wilson II, Justin Andrew Goad, and Jamie Lea Gardner of Yadkinville.

Ten students were recognized as honor graduates for earning a total score of 680 or above on their individual test; students must score at least 600 to receive a HSE. The following graduated with honors:

Amy Belton; Kaitlyn Brewer; Jazmin Clavel; Summer Cockerham; Tara Dillow; Brandon Forte; Brenda Hernandez; Kirsten Mayes; Rhett Schaller Jr.; and Julia Shores.

Receiving a HSE is sometimes a family affair, which was true for several graduating students. Brenda Hernandez and Esmeralda Hernandez are sisters from Winston-Salem; and Allen Duncan of Hamptonville and Jared Duncan of Roaring River are an uncle-and-nephew pair that graduated together.
