The Surry County Schools Board of Education approved assistant principal positions at a recent board meeting.
Jenny Alyn Key will be the assistant principal at J. Sam Gentry Middle School and Michael Bodnar will become the assistant principal at North Surry High School.
Key goes to Gentry Middle School with six years of experience. Key’s most recent position has been a high school English teacher and assistant principal at the Surry Early College. Key serves on the district CORE team and is a district CRISS and Cooperative Learning trainer.
She has a Bachelor of Science degree in middle grade language arts and math and a Master of Arts degree in curriculum and instruction. She received another Master’s Degree in School Administration from Appalachian State in May 2015. Key is a North Carolina Teaching Fellow and represented Surry Early College as Teacher of the Year in 2013-14.
Bodnar received a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Radford University and brings 18 years of experience as a classroom teacher and coach in the Mount Airy City School district to the job. He most recently served as a science teacher at the Surry Early College where he was also the Science Olympiad advisor.
Sandra Priddy returns to the Surry Early College after four years as assistant principal at J. Sam Gentry Middle School. Prior to her time at Gentry, she was assistant principal and an exceptional children’s teacher at the Surry Early College from 2009-2011. She also served as assistant principal at Central Middle for six years.
Dustin Webb resigned as assistant principal of North Surry High School to take a position in Elkin City Schools.
