A registered sex offender in Elkin was charged this week with violating his residency restrictions after he allegedly was living too close to a school.
On Aug. 17, John Henry Beeson II, 55, was arrested and charged with violation of the sex offender registry residency restrictions.
The Elkin Police Department received information that Beeson was residing within 1,000 feet of a school, confirmed that Beeson was listed on the registry and arrested Beeson without incident. Beeson was placed under a $2,500 secured bond and taken to Surry County Jail.
Beeson was required to register as a sex offender following a November 1986 conviction of first-degree criminal sexual conduct that occurred in Charleston County, South Carolina.
