DOBSON — Surry Community College will hold its 25th annual High School Equivalency Graduation, formerly known as General Education Diploma or GED, on Sunday at 3 p.m. in the SCC Gymnasium, Dobson.

Dennis Lowe, retired director of the Small Business Center, will be the commencement speaker. A total of 249 students completed the HSE in 2013-2014 at Surry Community College. A reception for graduates, families and friends will be held in the Knights’ Grill following the graduation ceremony.

The HSE program allows students to earn a High School Equivalency diploma from the State Board of the North Carolina Community College System. The fall orientation dates are as follows: Aug. 25 and Aug. 26, 8:30 to 11:30 p.m.; Aug. 25 and Aug. 26, 6 to 9 p.m.; and Aug. 27 and Aug. 28, 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. The orientations will each be held concurrently at The Elkin Center, Jones Family Resource Center, The Pilot Center, The Yadkin Center and Surry Community College’s campus in Dobson, Room J-222.

Orientation is mandatory for new Adult Basic Education/HSE students and students returning after six months. Students need to attend the same time slot each day and evening session. Contact one of the following learning centers to pre-register for orientation: Dobson campus at 386-3455; Yadkin Center at 679-4600, ext. 3594; Jones Family Resource Center at 786-1071; Elkin Center at 386-3604; and Pilot Center at 386-3618.
