Dancers from Rhythm On Main Dance & Gymnastics in downtown Elkin attended the USA National Dance Championship in Rock Hill, South Carolina, this summer and brought back several big awards.
The 27 students, from Surry, Yadkin and Wilkes counties, took 14 routines to the competition and won one High Gold award, seven Platinum awards, five High Platinum awards, two Fifth Place Top Score awards, one Fourth Place Top Score award, two Second Place Top Score awards, five First Place Top Score awards the National Crowd Pleaser Award and the Super Grand National Production Champion award.
Albany Luffman won a Platinum award and a Fifth Place Top Score Petite Competitive Solo with her lyrical routine, “Alice in Wonderland.” Molly Gibson won a Platinum award and Fifth Place Top Score Junior Competitive Solo with her musical theater routine, “Hey Daddy.” Gibson was also a semi-finalist and solo routine preliminary winner in Junior Miss Dance USA.
Sydney Hayes won a High Platinum Award for her musical theater routine, “So Long, Dearie,” and was a featured dancer in the USA National Dance Team that performed the opening number of the National Championships. Carson Nunnemaker won a High Platinum Award for her tap routine, “Miss Otis Regrets.”
The petite tap routine, “Wedding Party,” won a Platinum Award and First Place Top Score Mini Small Group. The junior tap routine, “Five Guys Named Moe,” won a Platinum Award and Second Place Top Score Junior Small Group. The senior tap routine, “Wizard of Oz,” won a High Gold Award. The junior lyrical routine “Colors,” won a Platinum Award and First Place Top Score Petite Small Group. The senior lyrical routine, “Oceans,” won a Platinum Award and Fourth Place Top Score Teen Small Group.
The petite jazz routine “Barbie Girls,” won a Platinum Award, First Place Top Score Mini Large Group and was awarded the National Crowd Pleaser Award. The junior and senior jazz routine, “Latin Ladies,” won a High Platinum Award and First Place Top Score Junior Large Group. The lyrical company routine, “Sunny Days,” won a Platinum Award and Second Place Petite Super Group. The tap company routine, “Buds,” won a High Platinum and First Place Top Score Petite Competitive Super Group.
The Rhythm On Main production number, “Frozen,” won a High Platinum Award and in the National Production Showdown won the Super Grand National Production Champion.
