MIAMI, FLA — Roaring Gap author Libby Bagby was recognized by the Readers’ Favorite Book Awards in a ceremony held on Nov. 24.

Her book, “Lucky’s Plott, A Plott Hound Tale,” received a bronze medal in the category Children’s Book, Grades 4–6. The competition included thousands of entries from independent authors, small publishers, and major publishers such as HarperCollins and Simon & Schuster.

The inspiration for Bagby’s book was Lucky, a dog she rescued from the roadside on a winter afternoon. After learning the dog was a Plott hound, the North Carolina state dog, Bagby wrote the heart-warming story of Lucky’s rescue. This book shows how a single act of kindness can change the plot of a person’s life. It also teaches some character traits of North Carolina’s state breed. Lucky’s Plott, A Plott Hound Tale has become a regular part of school curriculum in over 46 North Carolina counties. This book’s popularity prompted Bagby to recreate the story as a picture book for grades K-3 in her second book, One Lucky Dog.

Continued interest in the Plott breed has Bagby working on a new book series, which follows two Plott puppies as they train to become members of a K-9 unit with a North Carolina sheriff’s department.
