The Elkin Police Department has a suspect in custody for the Dec. 16, 2013, and the Jan. 1, 2014, larcenies at La Fuente restaurant.
On March 16, Burley Robert Mayberry Jr., 30, of Statesville, was apprehended by the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office.
According to Capt. Kim Robison of the Elkin Police Department, during both incidents, a male entered the restaurant, distracted the employees and reached in the cash register and took cash.
During the investigation, Mayberry became a suspect and warrants were issued.
“He (Mayberry) has been charged with one count of misdemeanor larceny and one count of felony larceny. The difference, in this case, between misdemeanor larceny and felony larceny, is the dollar amount taken. Misdemeanor is under $1,000 and felony is over $1,000,” said Robison.
La Fuente is a Mexican eatery located at 1627 N. Bridge St.
Store employee Jose Sanchez reacted saying the news was refreshing. “The guy took a lot of money. I’m glad police found somebody.”
Mayberry is being held in the Iredell County Jail under a $30,000 secured bond. Mayberry has been given a March 19 court date.
