JONESVILLE — A Ronda commissioner faces charges of driving while impaired following an incident in Jonesville on Aug. 1.
Sandra Parsons Simmons, 72, of 2nd Street, Ronda, was arrested on Aug. 1 shortly before 1 p.m. at D-Rex Pharmacy parking lot and was charged with DWI – alcohol, careless and reckless driving, and failing to stop for an accident, all misdemeanor charges.
According to the arrest and incident reports, Simmons was driving a 2007 Toyota Highlander when she apparently drove through the yard damaging property owned by Harold Dean Turner of Jonesville and then damaging a stop sign.
“I was going to pick up my son’s medicine,” Simmons said Tuesday of the incident. “He was waiting on hip replacement and had no other way of getting his medication because he can’t drive. It was a must. There was no other way to get him his medication he had to have. Now he’s in ICU here at the hospital with a bad sickness. That was the only reason I was on the highway.”
The cost of damages included $100 for a stop sign and $200 in yard damage.
Simmons was given a $1,000 secured bond and is scheduled for a court date of Nov. 2.
