Alleghany Fiddlers Convention announces winners

SPARTA — The Alleghany County Fiddlers Convention had 197 individuals and 27 bands competing in Sparta on July 15-16, including junior and senior old-time and bluegrass categories and a dance contest.

The fiddlers convention is hosted by the Sparta-Alleghany Volunteer Fire Department and is held the third full weekend in July each year at the Alleghany Fairgrounds. The 2017 convention will be on July 21-22.

Winners are as follows, listed first through fifth place.

Bluegrass Bands: Sons Of The South, Troutman; Bad Ridge, Oakwood, Virginia; Mountain Grass, Marion, Virginia; Bluegrass Tradition, Ararat, Virginia; Willows Ridge Bluegrass, Kingsport, Tennessee.

Old Time Bands: Cabin Creek Boys, Lansing; Slate Mountain Ramblers, Mount Airy; Jerry’s Bait And Tackle, Elk Creek, Virginia; High Ridge Pickers, West Jefferson; Brits And Grits, Mount Airy.
