Community and Church Calendar


Submission guidelines for calendar events: One-time events may be submitted for placement in the calendar at least two weeks prior to the date of the event. Information should include date, time, place, brief description and contact information, if necessary. Calendars are published as space permits and do not run in every issue of the paper. If a submission is not showing, it is due to the chronological order of the events. Events to be included are at our discretion, and information is subject to editing. Dec. 6

• 10 a.m., the Elkin Public Library will host a “Christmas Caramel Murder” Party, with discussion of the book, “Christmas Caramel Murder,” by Joanne Fluke, and enjoy treats made from the recipes in the book. • 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., a blood drive will be held at East Bend Baptist Church.

• 6 to 10 p.m., the Wilkes Art Gallery will host a Holly Jolly Christmas Party with heavy hors d’oeuvres, beer, wine and punch, as well as music by Tin Can Alley. Tickets are $45 each or $80 per couple. Bring a new, unwrapped toy to donate to H.O.P.E. Ministries.

• 10:45 a.m., Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 593 Pleasant Hill Drive, Elkin, will host a choir-led Christmas worship.

• 3 p.m., Yadkin Community Chorus will present excerpts from Handel’s “Messiah” at the Willingham Theater, Yadkin Cultural Arts Center. The event is free.

• 4:30 p.m., Upper Yadkin Valley Habitat for Humanity is hosting a raffle for four front row or box seat tickets and up to $100 bar/cafe tab at New Year’s Eve at the Reeves Theater, on Dec. 31 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Raffle tickets are one for $3 or four for $10, with the drawing to be held at the Elkin Habitat ReStore, 102 E. • 7 to 9 p.m., Starmount High School Lady Rams soccer teams will have a fundraising concert in the school auditorium featuring Elvis tribute artist, Taylor Vaden, and Memphis Thunder. Seating is limited to 288, with tickets still on sale the day of the concert if seats are available for $15 each.
