Community Calendar


Submission guidelines for calendar events: One-time events may be submitted for placement in the calendar at least two weeks prior to the date of the event. Information should include date, time, place, brief description and contact information, if necessary. Calendars are published as space permits and do not run in every issue of the paper. If a submission is not showing, it is due to the chronological order of the events. Events to be included are at our discretion, and information is subject to editing. Oct. 30

• 10 a.m. to noon, the state ABC Commission will offer the Responsible Alcohol Seller/Server Program (RASP) workshop at the Fairfield Inn, 628 CC Camp Road, Elkin. The training is a free two-hour workshop that provides participants with the most current information on alcohol laws and covers techniques for detecting underage and intoxicated patrons. This is for issues that affect businesses that sell alcohol for on-premise and off-premise consumption. Register online at http://abc.nc.gov/education/rasp.

• Trick-or-treating at downtown merchants will be held for Halloween.

• Mercy and Truth Ministries will have its holiday toy bus drive at Boonville Elementary School.

Nov. 2

• 2 to 5 p.m., Mountain Valley Hospice & Palliative Care will host a veterans ball at the Barn at Heritage Farm in Mount Airy. The event allows veterans a time for music, dancing and food. Admission to the dance is free for veterans and a guest, but RSVP is required. For more information or to register, call 336-789-2922.

• Mercy and Truth Ministries will have its holiday toy bus drive at Walmart in Elkin.

• 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Jonesville Historical Society will host its annual Christmas Bazaar and Craft Fair at the Yadkin Valley Senior Center, Delos Martin Drive, Jonesville. In addition to the bazaar and fair, hot dogs will be for sale with two and a drank and chips for $5 all day ; soup supper with crackers, dessert and drink for $8 from 5 to 7 p.m.; and Bingo with 20 games and prizes for $25 from 6 to 9 p.m.

• 5:30 to 9:30 p.m., the 1967 Elkin High School state championship football team will hold a 50-year reunion at Cedarbrook Country Club.

Nov. 6

• 1:30 to 6 p.m., a blood drive will be held at the Surry American Red Cross building, 844 Westlake Drive, Mount Airy.

• 2 to 7 p.m., a blood drive will be held at Bethel Baptist Church, 2232 Brandon Hills Road, Yadkinville.

• 2 to 7 p.m., a blood drive will be held at Wilkesboro Baptist Church, 300 W. Main St., Wilkesboro.

• Mercy and Truth Ministries will have its holiday toy bus drive at Jonesville Elementary School.

• 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., a blood drive will be held at East Wilkes High School, 13315 Elkin Highway, Ronda.

• 3 to 6 p.m., a veterans appreciation event will be held at the Elkin National Guard Armory. On hand will be various outreach organizations and companies taking time to share time with the veterans. • 5 to 7 p.m., Cardboard City fundraiser will be held at Elkin Municipal Park at the large shelter. Each person with a box raises $500 or more through donations for The ARK.
