Roaring River man shot in reported burglary incident

ROARING RIVER — A 52-year-old Roaring River man is hospitalized following a shooting incident at his home shortly after 1 p.m. Monday.

Daniel Keith Walters Sr. of 4544 Greenhorn Road was airlifted to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem after a reported burglary and shooting at his home. According to the incident report from Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office, three other people were at the home when officers arrived to the reported incident.

Officers found Walters laying in the doorway of his bedroom bleeding from his abdomen and another area when they arrived on the scene.

“We are in the very early stages of the investigation and are able to release a small amount of information at this time only,” reported Carson in an email Monday evening. “We do have a suspect at this time and the suspect is known by the victim.”

According to the incident report, others listed as involved are Charles Cecil Gladwell, 20, and Kristi Lynn Walters, 43, both of the home, and Victoria Mazie Wooten, 20, of Taylor Street, Yadkinville.

Walters was conscious and alert when he was flown out of Wilkes County, Carson reported.

In an update Tuesday, Chief Deputy David Carson said Walters was undergoing surgery Tuesday.

Other details were not available as the investigation is ongoing.
