Years of family fun have turned into a business for Matthew Kennedy, owner of Elk Outdoors, which recently opened in Elkin.

Located at 198 Brookfall Dairy Road, this business serves where others fall short. “We’re mostly guns and ammunition,” said Kennedy. He displayed a wide variety of rifles and handguns as well as accessories and ammunition.

Elk Outdoors also carries a selection of items for various types of bow hunters and welcomes women with items specifically with them in mind.

“I’m going to expand what I carry,” said Kennedy, describing how he planned to add more inventory to his limited selection of fishing and camping gear such as high quality coolers. “Those are really popular,” he said.

In addition to carrying items for the outdoors, Kennedy also offers such safety classes as those needed for permits.

For more information about these classes or to check on the unique inventory as it grows, visit Elk Outdoors from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays with hours extended until 6 p.m. on Fridays, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays or call 336-258-8120.
