Friday and Saturday at Elkin Public Library, published local author Matthew Miller will present The Art of Publishing, a free workshop on how to get published. Offered in three sessions on individual topics residents can chose to attend individual lectures or all of them.
The first section is on Friday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and, beginning with an introduction to Miller as well as an overview of the workshop, will focus on the act of writing. In addition to forming good creative habits, Miller also will give suggestions on how to balance the time-consuming hobby with other aspects of life.
On Saturday at 10 a.m., Miller will step up his instruction to the Art of Writing Well, focusing on turning a written piece into a masterpiece through continued improvement. By the noon end of this session, participants will discover how to determine if their ideas are ready for publishing and how to prepare.
After an hour break for lunch, the third session will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. and will focus on the details of publishing in today’s technological climate. Miller will educate attendees on different types of publications including self-publishing.
In addition to publishing, the final session will address concerns of publicity and modern media. Social media and using it to increase sales and influence also will be covered during this time.
