With July temperatures soaring in the 90s and recent humidity levels creating a balmy feeling in the air, one local family took to the river banks to avoid the heat.
Keela Holbrook, along with her daughters Maggie and Emily, and their Jack Russell terrier, hit the Yadkin River banks on Wednesday to cool off. “It feels great!” said Maggie as they swam in the waist-deep water.
The family is no stranger to the local waterways. According to Holbrook, her family enjoys kayaking the local sections of the river and appreciates the efforts of special interest groups that work hard to keep the waters clean. “You’ll rarely see any trash at all in the river,” said Holbrook.
While the river bed may contain occasional small pebbles, the sandy bottom is preferable to the family than crowded local pools. As the family enjoyed their time swimming, splashing and dunking each other, even the family dog was able to swim out and temporarily get in on the fun.
