RALEIGH — On Oct 17, Paula Marion was awarded as one of the Great 100 Nurses in North Carolina. This award is given each year to the top 100 nurses in North Carolina for their excellence in nursing. These nurses are nominated by their peers.
Marion, a native of Sparta, who now works as the school nurse for Elkin Middle and High schools, has 10 years experience in nursing. She has worked in the emergency room area as a nurse and as a nursing supervisor. She has helped to improve the health care of her patients as well as developed policies and programs that have helped to improve the safety and health of patients throughout the Novant Health corporation. She was a recipient of the Remarkable 45 in 2014 which is an award given to the top 45 nurses in the Novant Health Care system.
Marion started her career at Carteret General Hospital in Morehead City. Then moved to Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital Emergency Room. She then helped to open and work at Novant Health Clemmons Medical Center Emergency Room as day shift charge nurse.
She started Aug. 17 as the new school nurse for Elkin Middle and High schools. She is now working to improve the health and safety of the middle school and high school students and faculty.
She is married to Ashley Marion. She has two children, June, 7, and Molly Meyerhofer, 9, who attend Elkin Elementary School. She lives in Traphill.
