WILKESBORO — North Carolina’s MerleFest, considered one of the premier music festivals in the country, will sponsor a diverse collection of artists showcasing their music as part of the Bluegrass Ramble during the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA)’s World of Bluegrass multi-day event in Raleigh this fall.
The Bluegrass Ramble is IBMA’s innovative series of showcases in clubs and restaurants throughout downtown Raleigh and at the Raleigh Convention Center; fans can take in more than 150 performances from Sept. 29 to Oct. 1.
The MerleFest-sponsored showcases during the Ramble will take place at the Vintage Church (formerly named the Longview Center) at 118 S. Person St., each night (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday). Scheduled to perform during those shows are Blue Mafia, Frank Solivan & Dirty Kitchen, Jim Lauderdale, Barefoot Movement, Jon Stickley Trio, Locust Honey, MIPSO, The April Verch Band, Kristy Cox, Hank Smith and Lindsey Tims, The Gravy Boys and The Slocan Ramblers.
“MerleFest is excited to once again to be hosting a showcase during the International Bluegrass Music Association’s World of Bluegrass showcase, the Bluegrass Ramble,” said Steve Johnson, MerleFest’s artist relations manager. “With World of Bluegrass’ move to Raleigh, we felt it was important to be part of the event and even more important to be a showcase host, so we’ll return to the Longview Center again this year. We have a wide variety of artists planned over the course of the week — and don’t be surprised if you see a few of the bands that perform at our showcase make their way to MerleFest 2016.”
Admission to the Bluegrass Ramble evening showcases is available to both IBMA Business Conference attendees (must show conference badge) and to the general public, via Bluegrass Ramble showcase passes, which may be purchased per day or as a three-day package: http://www.etix.com/ticket/online/performanceSearch.jsp?performance_id=1806524.
A bonus for Ramble attendees: the Bluegrass Express, a dedicated transportation system provided by the city of Raleigh, will run nonstop between IBMA World of Bluegrass hotels and all Ramble venues (including Vintage Church) from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m.
