Ride for Readers raises $10K

The Northwestern Regional Library sponsored the fifth annual Freeborne’s Ride for Readers on June 11. More than $10,000 was raised that will help purchase ebooks.

The host sponsor this year was Freeborne’s Eatery and Lodge in Laurel Springs, who provided lunch for the riders. Music was provided by Bad Mountain Brew.

The winner of the 50/50 raffle was Richard Valentine; Terry Surface of Sugar Grove, Virginia, won the best poker hand, and George Case of Hendersonville won the worst poker hand. All winners generously donated their winnings back to the Northwestern Regional Library.

The sponsors for the Ride for Readers included: Freeborne’s Eatery and Lodge, Tampco, Inc., Document Imaging Solutions, Friends of the Alleghany County Public Library, Friends of the Boonville Public Library, Friends of the Elkin Public Library, Friends of the King Public Library, First Citizens Bank, Law Office of Heather R. Klein, TruLine Truss, Inc., SouthData, Surry Telephone, Blue Ridge Concrete Products, Lisa and Jim Drum, Ann and Steve Yokeley, Brannock’s Service Center, Inc., Samet, Payne, Wood, Horton & Company, Leonard Aluminum Utility Buildings, Moody Funeral Service, Inc., Airmont Florist, and Wolfe-Reese and Lynch.

Ebooks are available at no charge to anyone with a library card. To find out more, call a local library.

The ride organizers expressed their many thanks to all who helped make the Ride for Readers a big success.
