MOUNT AIRY — A drop-off day has been scheduled for people who wish to get rid of any household hazardous waste and pesticides.
The event, scheduled for Oct. 24 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., will be held at Veterans Memorial Park, West Lebanon Street, Mount Airy, and is sponsored by Surry County Public Works, Surry County Center of North Carolina Cooperative Extension and North Carolina Department of Agriculture.
Accepted during the collection event will be paints/paint strippers, thinners, weed killers/pesticides, solvents, drain solvents, gasoline, acids and pool chemicals.
Organizers ask that people not bring ammunitions/explosives, radioactive materials, unidentified materials, medicine and syringes, LP and propane cylinders, infectious waste and automotive type batteries.
All containers must be labeled, with lids tightly closed and glass bottles should be cushioned. No commercial waste will be accepted.
